The effective naturopathic studies of the health pioneer Sebastian Kneipp laid the foundation in 1891 for the emergence and development of today's Kneipp GmbH and the Kneipp® brand. Since then, as an internationally operating company headquartered in Würzburg, Kneipp exports sought-after body care and bath products as well as medicinal products and nutritional supplements to many countries throughout the world. In 2016, Kneipp® is celebrating a major anniversary: 125 years of being Nature’s Expert. The company and the Kneipp® brand – 125 years Nature’s Expert In 1890, Sebastian Kneipp met the Würzburg pharmacist Leonhard Oberhäußer. They became close partners and good friends over their mutual conviction to do good using naturopathic methods of healing. Starting with natural plant essences and other pure ingredients, they created those formulations which are still the basis of Kneipp products today. The joint experiments of natural remedies were a success. In 1891, Sebastian Kneipp placed the legacy of his lifelong studies in the hands of his friend and ally Oberhäußer. Kneipp transferred the rights to him to develop, produce and market pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as well as dietetic foods “with the name and image of Father Sebastian Kneipp.” Kneipp today The Kneipp company later developed on the basis of these agreements and for generations, it has developed, produced and distributed high-quality medicinal products, nutritional supplements and body-care products under the brand name Kneipp. To this day, the company is strongly committed to the large naturopathic legacy of Sebastian Kneipp, its co-founder after whom it was named. The Kneipp company currently has about 500 employees worldwide, 370 of whom are in Germany. At the main site in Ochsenfurt-Hohestadt, near Würzburg, coated tablets, lotions, bath additives such as bath oils, bath crystals and foam and cream bath products – one of the most important business areas – are produced. Kneipp has its own product development department. Research and Development work closely together with scientific institutions and develop patents and new active principles in the spirit of Sebastian Kneipp.
