Dr. Markus E. Scheller worked for almost 30 years for various companies such as BASF, Ciba-Geigy. After receiving his doctorate in organic chemistry from ETH Zurich (1985), he started as a research chemist at Syntex in Palo Alto, California.
In 1987, he joined Ciba-Geigy in process development in Switzerland. In 1991, he was co-leader of a major international project to create a fully automated synthesis plant each in Switzerland (Kaisten) and the USA (McIntosh). He subsequently remained with the U.S. team at McIntosh Alabama for 14 years, serving first as production manager for specialty additives, then for antioxidants. Dr. Scheller was appointed head of process development NAFTA in 1999, with locations in Puebla, McIntosh, Canada. In 2001, he was appointed Head of Global Process & Technology for the Additives Division with operations in the U.S., India, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, etc. In 2008, he transferred back and became site manager of BASF's largest plant in Switzerland in Monthey.
From 2012 to 2016, he supported the Federal Office of National Economic Supply (BWL) in the area of chemistry.
In 2016, he left BASF and has since been self-employed, acting as an "Operations Management" consultant to smaller companies.
In 2015, he was honored with the AICHE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) Management Award. Since then, he has been a director of the Management Division Board.
From July 2017 until today he supported SSE (Societé Swiss des Explosives) resp. Valsynthese in Brig, Switzerland.
